Credit Bureaus

About the three major credit bureaus.

Credit Bureaus maintain reports for each individual with a Social Security Number to determine the likeliness of the individual to pay back loans. These reports contain information that other lenders report to the central information clearinghouse. It is possible to learn from a credit report how many credit accounts the individual has, or how many credit inquiries he has made in the last two years. It is also possible to learn whether the person in question has unpaid debts or made late payments.

The clients of credit bureaus are companies banks and consumer finance companies who need to know how likely it is for individual consumers to pay back the loans offered to them.

The three major credir bureaus are Equifax, Experian, and TransUnion.
