Bank Cards

The advantages and disadvantages of getting a bank credit card.

Bank cards are the most commonly used credit cards. To get a Visa or MasterCard, you must deal with a financial institution that is a member of the Visa or MasterCard organizations. Besides commercial banks, credit unions, savings and loan associations, and other financial institutions also issue Visa and MasterCards. (It is not possible to get a Visa or MasterCard directly from these organizations.)

The biggest advantage of bank cards is their wide acceptance. That is because Visa and MasterCard are accepted at almost every single business around the world that accepts charge cards for payments. Bank cards usually have lower annual fees than T&E cards. Bank cards can also be used to get cash advances at many ATM machines around the world - although you need to be aware of the high interest rates that apply instantly as well as the cash advance fees. Currency exchange rates are also one other important thing to take into consideration if you are to get a cash advance abroad.

Bank cards have their disadvantages too, but none of them are particular to them. In other words, they do not have any additional disadvantages to other types of cards. As is always the case, terms of agreements have their own advantages and disadvantages, and what determines the nature of the terms the most is how desirable the account holder is to the card issuer.
