Travel and Entertainment Cards

The advantages and disadvantages of getting a travel and entertainment (T&E) credit cards.

Major 'travel and entertainment' (T&E) cards include American Express, Carde Blanche, and Diner's Club.

In the past, travel and entertainment cards were being used to charge dining, traveling, and lodging expenses only. Today, it is possible to charge pretty much everything to T&E cards, because all sorts of businesses accept these cards any more. However, the name and reputation of these cards as 'T&E cards' still lives on.

T&E cards allow for only short term credits. The account holder is, in most cases, required to pay the balance each month in full. They usually have higher annual fees. They also charge merchants at higher rates when compared to commercial banks, and this is why they are not accepted as widely. Mostly, you will be limited to high-scale shops, restaurants and hotels - due to obvious reasons. Their customer services provide a higher level of service. They provide special services to account holders when they travel. They hold mail, replace lost or stolen cards a lot faster than regular banks. In some cases, at least in theory, T&E credit cards are limitless - which means that there is no preset credit line on the card. However, this feature is not so easy to abuse, because it is not exactly true. Because, the charging patterns of the card holder is very closely monitored, and the customer service contacts the account holder or even does not authorize the charge in a case when things seem to be out of the ordinary.
